How do I set torque correctly when I can only get a spanner on the bolt?

Just to clarify – I mean a spanner in the UK sense (think this is a wrench in US) – rather than being able to get a socket on the bolt attached to a torque wrench (not sure how you would refer to this in US)

  1. use a crowsfoot. can get at a auto store

  2. Will a ‘crows foot’ fit? They come in various sizes (of course) and lengths.

Torque can be changed if you add different length wrenches onto a torque wrench.

Check link for great info about TORQUE.

  3. If you can not get a torque wrench on the bolt you can not get the exact torque required. If you put on an attachment to the torque wrench that alters the relationship of wrench to bolt centerline (ie putting on a crows foot ) it will alter the applied torque. The best you can do is estimate. Put the spanner on another bolt that is torqued to the spec you want and get a feel for it. Then apply this to what you want tightened
