can you open an xbox 360 with an Allen wrench tool, or do you need a torx screwdriver?

I’m going to repair my 360 but I don’t have a torx screwdriver. I’ve seen a guide that says you can use a small hex key (an allen wrench).

I don’t see how both can work, as a torx bit is a 6 pointed star whereas a hex/allen key is 6 sided (not 6 pointed).

I have lots of allen keys so I would be pleased if those would work,

Thanks!

  1. honestly, to prevent stripping out the screws id go to some place like autozone to get the bits for cheep. If you strip a screw you’ll have to almost brake the case to open it, If you want, replace them with philips screws but i like torx because they don’t strip easy.

  2. DONTTTT!!!! because if it broke down n thought about sending it to Microsoft’s repair centre it will be considered a tampered console as u’v violated the terms of use and it will be broken forever..try to call their customer supprt and describe the issue for them

  3. I just repaired my 360 earlier this week with my only torx wrench being a T10. But you also need a T8 for the RF module and the screws that hold the metal case to the motherboard/X clamps. So I ended up grinding down an allen wrench to fit into the T8 screws(cause of my impatience)and I still stripped a few of them. So I very highly recommend just spending a couple dollars and get the torx bits it will be whole lot easier and cause alot less damage.
If you have yet to take apart your 360 then don’t, just send it to Microsoft. And in about a month(I guess I’m not real sure how long it will take)they will send you a working 360 and they will also give you a month of Xbox LIVE for free.
